Position Summary:
As a key member of the farm team, the Poultry Field Technician at JWM Poultry will be
responsible for day-to-day communication with farmers, conducting weekly or bi-weekly
on-site service visits, and overseeing the overall health and performance of the
customers’ layers and pullets. This role ensures that all operational standards are
clearly understood and followed by each farmer, supports third-party audit visits, reports
any bird health, egg quality, or compliance issues to leadership, and ensures that all
necessary documentation is completed for any bird movement.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct weekly or bi-weekly on-site visits with JWM producers or customers to
assess bird health, optimize production efficiency, and maintain high egg quality.
• Ensure each producer remains compliant with relevant standards and certifications,
including USDA Organic and American Humane. Regularly submitting materials to the
compliance manager.
• Collaborate with producers to identify and troubleshoot production issues, offering
technical support and guidance as needed.
• Collect and electronically file all data from on-site visits in an organized and timely
manner.
• Assist other areas within the JWM field service department as directed.
• Attend relevant industry seminars, workshops, and tradeshows to enhance personal
development and stay informed on industry trends.
• Enforce JWM or Customer policies and procedures in line with regulatory and industry
standards.
• Document detailed notes from weekly visits and prepare reports for presentation at
production meetings.
• Actively represent and promote JWM Poultry within the local agricultural and poultry
industry.
• Support other departments or teams as needed to contribute to overall company
success.
• Communicate any non-conformances promptly to producers and the Live Production
Manager to ensure timely resolution.
• Ensure producers are informed of any egg-type changes, and verify that eggs are
being tagged correctly and necessary supplies are available on-farm.
• Coordinate with local veterinarians and state officials to schedule Avian Influenza (AI)
surveillance testing for the sale of spent fowl and keep track or regulatory testing
needs for State and FDA.
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of egg quality standards.
Requirements:
• Travel as needed within PA MD, DE, NY, NJ, WV & VA (overnight travel out of
state is sometimes required)
• Be able to handle live animals, walking and lifting of 25lbs
• Be comfortable talking with farmers
• Be comfortable with addressing issues as identified
• Highly motivated to gain personal knowledge on service techniques
• Must be familiar with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Must be comfortable using various pieces of technology (iPad, laptop)
• Must be organized
• Time management focused
• Come to work each day with a positive attitude
• Degree in Animal Science (Preferred, but not required)
• Must not own or come in contact with other poultry
• Must have a PA Certified Poultry Technician License
Qualifications:
